High Camp is the final overnight stop before crossing Thorong La on the Annapurna Circuit, set above Thorong Phedi at close to 4,850 metres in stark, high-altitude terrain well above the treeline. Trekkers typically begin the crossing of the 5,416 metre pass before dawn from here, aiming to reach and descend from the highest point of the trek before the strong winds that build over Thorong La by midday make the crossing considerably more difficult and unpleasant.

The camp itself consists of a handful of basic teahouses offering simple accommodation, and conditions here can be genuinely cold, even in the main trekking seasons, given the altitude and exposed position on the mountainside. Most trekkers describe the night at High Camp as one of the more physically uncomfortable stops on the entire Annapurna Circuit, sleep often disrupted by altitude and the anticipation of the demanding day ahead, though the sense of achievement upon successfully crossing the pass the following morning is widely considered to outweigh this discomfort.

Views from High Camp, when weather allows, extend across the surrounding peaks of the Annapurna range, offering a preview of the scale awaiting trekkers at the top of Thorong La itself. Because of the altitude and the demanding day ahead, most experienced guides recommend an early night and minimal exertion at High Camp, prioritising rest over exploration in preparation for what is, for many trekkers, the single most demanding day of the entire Annapurna Circuit.

Mobile signal in the area is patchy at best, and travellers should not rely on constant connectivity once they are this far into the trail network.
