How long is the Nepal Yoga Retreat?
Nepal is the birthplace of the Buddha, the home of centuries-old Tantric and Bon spiritual traditions, and a living culture where meditation, ritual, and the contemplative life are not exotic imports but the fabric of daily existence. The Nepal Yoga Retreat is a 7-day private journey designed for practitioners of yoga and meditation who want to deepen their practice in a setting of profound authentic resonance - combining daily yoga and meditation sessions at two of Nepal's finest retreat venues with immersive cultural encounters at the UNESCO heritage sites and monasteries that form the living context for these practices in their original home.
The retreat divides between three days in Kathmandu - with morning yoga on rooftop terraces overlooking the UNESCO heritage squares, guided visits to Boudhanath (the great Vajrayana stupa where monks perform their daily circumambulation at dawn), Nagi Gompa (an active nunnery on the Shivapuri ridge, accessible by a 2-hour forest hike), and Kopan Monastery (which offers one of the world's most respected introductory Buddhist study programmes) - and four days in Pokhara, where the lakeside setting beneath the Annapurna range delivers the ideal combination of mountain contemplative atmosphere and comfortable retreat infrastructure, with daily yoga at a dedicated studio overlooking Machhapuchhre (6,993 m).
Sessions are led by qualified yoga teachers associated with View Himalaya's retreat partners - certified in the Sivananda, Iyengar, or Ashtanga tradition depending on client preference - with meditation sessions drawing on the Vipassana, Loving-Kindness (Metta), and Tibetan visualization traditions. The programme is flexible: it can be tailored for beginners taking their first retreat experience, or for established practitioners wanting a deepened cultural context for a practice they have followed for years. No specific yoga or meditation experience is required.

Truly one of the highlights of our travels in Asia. The support crew were fantastic throughout, always checking in on us. A particular highlight for us was phewa Lake meditation boat - guided Loving-Kindness (Metta) meditation practice on a private boat on Phewa Lake at dawn, with the Annapurna reflection in the still water; the lake setting dissolves the boundary between practice and landscape in a way that no indoor studio replicates. Highly recommend View Himalaya to anyone considering this trip.
An unforgettable experience from start to finish. The guide's local knowledge added so much depth to the trip. A particular highlight for us was boudhanath dawn circumambulation - joining the monks and laypeople circling the great stupa at first light with butter lamps lit and prayer beads moving; the collective meditative energy of hundreds of practitioners at dawn at one of the world's great sacred sites is an experience that practising meditators consistently describe as transformative. We'd book with View Himalaya again without hesitation.
