Bimthang is a high alpine meadow at around 3,720 metres on the far side of the demanding Larkya La pass, the first proper settlement trekkers reach on the Manaslu Circuit after the exhausting crossing from Dharamsala. Set in a wide, open valley with dramatic views back toward Manaslu, Manaslu North, and the surrounding glaciated peaks, Bimthang is frequently cited by trekkers as one of the single most scenic camps on the entire circuit, a fitting reward after one of the hardest days most trekkers will experience in Nepal.

The meadow itself sits below a retreating glacier, and the surrounding landscape shows clear evidence of past glacial activity: moraine ridges, scattered boulders, and a broad U-shaped valley floor left behind as the ice has receded over recent decades. A handful of teahouses provide accommodation for trekkers arriving in varying states of exhaustion from the pass crossing, and the relatively gentle terrain around Bimthang itself, in contrast to the demanding climb just completed, offers a welcome chance to recover before the descent continues the following day.

Because Bimthang marks the psychological and physical turning point of the Manaslu Circuit, the crossing of Larkya La behind them and the remainder of the trek now heading generally downhill toward Dharapani and the Annapurna Circuit trail, many trekkers describe a distinct shift in mood here: relief, achievement, and a renewed appreciation for the scenery now that the hardest technical section of the route is complete. The panorama from Bimthang, particularly in the clear light of early morning before cloud typically builds later in the day, is considered by many experienced Himalayan trekkers to rival views found on far more famous routes elsewhere in Nepal.

Yak caravans are a common sight around Bimthang, adding a further layer of authentic mountain life to what is already one of the visual highlights of the entire Manaslu Circuit.
